Michelle: Describe why Sports Security services are even more crucial in today's society? The stakes are just way too high due to challenges both in the U.S and throughout the world. Reactionary tactics no longer apply in an ever changing, challenging, high level field. law enforcement, ems, paramedics, and the fire department, is paramount for a safe, secure patron experience. Getting on the same page with the first responders, i.e. The key is sharing knowledge and proper communication. James: Pre-event staff meetings, monitoring social media platforms before events, and cross-training between guest services and security are just a few that immediately come to mind. Michelle: What steps would you put in place for game day preventative measures as opposed to simply reactionary tactics? Two groups, in particular, that I have connected with are the NCS4 and the IAVM. I have spent a great deal of time focusing on the latest research, training and education benefits in order to stay current and sharp in this field. Everyone that I know who works in the Sports Security space does so because they have a two prong approach: they want to protect people and they have a passion for sports. James: I believe there are more similarities than differences. Michelle: In what ways is your approach to sports security different than other choices a professional stadium staff might make for arena security? Transferable skills which aided with transitioning to a second career in Sports Security. My police academy training cultivated my leadership abilities and command presence. I learned how to assess/evaluate situations, deescalate difficult/hostile situations/rectify problems/conflict resolution, conduct thorough investigations, all with a public safety mindset for protecting lives and property.
